It combines architecture and hyle - the Greek term for matter as the foundation of all form and reality.
hyle [hy’le] (grčki ὕλη: wood, substance), the term Aristotle uses to denote matter as a metaphysical assumption of all reality. “First matter” (πρώτη ὕλη) is an indeterminate substrate, “pure possibility” for any being.
A definite (real) being is realized when the principle of actualization approaches the indefinite material substrate, which Aristotle calls form (μορφή, εἶδος). Already formed matter can be – as secondary matter – the basis for some higher form, and this in turn matter for another higher one, etc. The process by which the indefinite hyle is realized through form Aristotle calls movement (ϰίνησıς).
